Little Eagle Man Indicted for Four Counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child and Two Counts of Abusive Sexual Contact

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Little Eagle man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for four counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child and two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact of a Child with three different children.

Burton Little Dog, age 43, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 11, 2011, for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child and Abusive Sexual Contact with a Child. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on August 1, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a mandatory minimum of 30 years up to life in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; a mandatory minimum of five years up to life of supervised release; and a $100 Special Assessment. Restitution may also be ordered. The charges are merely accusations, and Little Dog is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Detective Division of the Standing Rock Sioux Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Little Dog was temporarily remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
